I know I've talked a lot about Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child, Tamra Davis’s exciting new Basquiat bio-documentary, on this blog, but wanted to show the trailer here as well. Although seen at the Sundance Film Fesival, and previewed in Rough Cut at Art Basil Miami Beach, the movie was officially released in the US on February 21st, while I was in London. I’m hoping it gets to the Film Forum or somewhere else in New York soon, and gets as wide a release as possible before being put out on video. The movie also opened in Canada Wednesday Feb. 24th for the Canadian Art Reel Artists Film Festival in Toronto. "I really tried to make a movie that if I ran into him [Basquiat] somewhere I could show it to him," explained director Davis. When asked about Julian Schnable’s file she barely commented "I know what Jean-Michel thought of Schnabel." Slightly less of a put down than Fab Five Freddy's remarks in Miami (“Julian making a film about Jean-Michel is like George Foreman making a film about Muhammad Ali.”) The film played at the Royal Conservatory/ Al Green Theatre, from February 24th till the 28. |
