After the major Basquiat exhibition at the Fondation Beyeler, there will be another one in Paris. Some 100 works by Basquiat will be on show from October at the Musée d'Art moderne de la Ville de Paris (City Museum of Modern Art www.mam.paris.fr ). The show will be on from 15 October 2010 To 30 January 2011. The museum publicity calls it “an encounter with the work of the pioneer of the underground scene, that is simultaneously original, violent and energetic.” Basquiat has shown work in several French galleries while he was alive, and posthumously. His work has also appeared in several group shows there (including the recent interesting Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain’s exhibition on Street Art http://www.re-title.com/exhibitions/FondationCartierpourlartcontemporain.asp which closed on November 29, 2009), and his painting Slave Auction of 1982 is on view at the Beaubourg. However, the Musée d'Art moderne show will be the first major retrospective of his work in the French capital. |
