Tamra Davis' great full length biography documentary on Basquiat, Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child, discussed previously many times on this blog, was released, today, November 9th, 2010, on DVD.

It is an entertaining documentary, and gives by far the best understanding of Basquiat's life, art, and times on video.

Based on some incredible footage by Tamra of Basquiat at the end of his life, the film adds much more to that due to Davis' research, knowledge of the time, access to his friends, and talent as a filmmaker.
My only objection is the Shepard Fairey cover to the DVD.

It is available
at Barnes and Nobel, Amazon, and most local video stores.

In addition to the one and a half hour movie, the DVD includes uncut interviews with Tamra Davis.

You still have a chance to see the movie on the big screen. It is showing in New York at the Maysles Cinema, 343 Malcolm X Boulevard (between 127th - 128th St.) on November 11th, 12th, 13th, and 14th; and at the Red Vic movie house, San Francisco, on the 10th and 11th.
